Jim Reed finished his 13th season as the head coach of the Susquehanna women’s basketball team in 2017-18. His overall record at SU is 167-161 (.509 winning percentage). Combined with his 27 wins as head coach at Wilkes University, Reed has accumulated 194 career victories.

He was picked to head both the women’s basketball and women’s golf programs at Susquehanna in August 2005 after a four-year stint as the head women’s basketball coach at Wilkes from 2001-2005. Reed guided the SU women’s golf team until 2012.

During his tenure with Susquehanna, he has mentored 17 all-conference players, including 15 All-Landmark selections. Reed coached the 2008-09 and 2014-15 Landmark Conference Rookies of the Year while he and his coaching staff were voted the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year during those same years.

Reed was no stranger to Susquehanna when he arrived in 2005, having served as an assistant women’s basketball coach under Mark Hribar for three seasons (1989-1992) and as a men’s basketball assistant under current head coach Frank Marcinek for two seasons (1992-1994). He served as an SU assistant baseball coach from 1991-1994 and as the head women’s tennis coach for one season (1993-94).

The Reedsville, Pa., native was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Division II University of Indianapolis during the 1994-95 season and was an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Indian Valley H.S. (Pa.) from 1995-1998.

In 1998, Reed returned to his alma mater, Division I Bucknell, as an assistant women’s basketball coach and helped the Bison to a then school-record 20 victories during the 2000–01 season before moving on to Wilkes.

As a student-athlete at Bucknell, he played one season of football as a defensive back and lettered twice in track & field.
Reed is a 1980 graduate of the former Kishacoquillas (Pa.) H.S. and a 1981 graduate of Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy.

He worked as a structural engineer for four years before turning to coaching.
