NCAA Information for Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Susquehanna University
Susquehanna University is a proud member of NCAA Division III. Our coaches, athletic administrators, and staff adhere to NCAA regulations in all aspects of competition and in recruiting prospective student-athletes to join the River Hawks community.
Under NCAA guidelines, parents, alumni, friends, and supporters may unknowingly be classified as "representatives of Susquehanna University athletic interests" (also known as boosters) and, as such, are subject to the same recruiting rules and regulations as our coaches and staff. If an NCAA violation occurs — whether intentional or not — Susquehanna University is held accountable. Consequences may include institutional sanctions, restrictions on competition, and possible loss of student-athlete eligibility.
This page serves as a brief reference to the NCAA regulations that apply to alumni, parents, and friends of Susquehanna Athletics. However, it does not encompass the full scope of NCAA policies.
To avoid potential compliance issues, please contact the compliance coordinator before:
- Engaging with prospective student-athletes or their families about Susquehanna Athletics.
- Making donations to any athletic program.
- Employing or providing benefits to enrolled or prospective student-athletes.
Any contact with a prospective student-athlete for the purpose of encouraging their enrollment at Susquehanna should be coordinated directly with the head coach of that sport.
Who Is Considered a Booster?
You are classified as a booster or a "representative of Susquehanna University athletic interests" if you have:
- Participated in or been a member of an organization that supports Susquehanna Athletics.
- Made a financial contribution to any Susquehanna Athletics program.
- Assisted in recruiting efforts at the request of Athletics staff.
- Provided benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families.
- Otherwise promoted Susquehanna University Athletics.
