WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Susquehanna University's senior co-captain
and middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North
Schuylkill) recorded a match- and season-high .727 attack
percentage to help Susquehanna blank Moravian College, 3-0 (25-11,
25-23, 25-16), on the second and last day of the second 2009
Landmark Conference Round-Robin, held at The Catholic University of
America's Raymond A. DuFour Center on Oct. 18.
Cicioni's eight kills and zero errors in 11
attacks helped SU (19-11, 5-1 Landmark) claim the No. 2 seed in the
upcoming Landmark championships. The Crusaders will join nationally
ranked No. 2 and the Landmark's No. 1 seed, Juniata College (23-2,
6-0 Landmark), as the other team with a first-round bye in the
conference playoffs.
Junior outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton,
Pa./Freedom) posted a match-high 10 kills against Moravian
(12-16, 2-4 Landmark). The Greyhounds finished Round-Robin play as
the Landmark's No. 5 seed. Jankiewicz also tied
for the match-high with two service aces.
Crusaders sophomore setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville,
N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) led all players with 27 assists
in this match. Teammate and freshman libero Kelly O'Brien
(Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) posted a match-high 18
digs.
Senior co-captain and middle hitter Madeline Hals
(Morristown, N.J./Morristown) tied for the match-high with
three blocks. SU's freshman utility player Morgan Jackson
(Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and sophomore defensive
specialist Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro
Area) tied Jankiewicz for the match-high
with two service aces each.
Catholic (19-9, 4-2) finished Round-Robin play with the
Landmark's No. 3 seed. Goucher College (13-11, 3-3) and the United
States Merchant Marine Academy (12-12, 1-5) are the No. 4 and No. 6
seeds, respectively. The University of Scranton (5-17, 0-6) did not
qualify for the Landmark championships.
Susquehanna will play in the Landmark semifinals (and possibly
the championship match) on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Juniata.
