BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's junior outside hitter
Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) notched
15 kills in each of two matches to pace the Susquehanna women's
volleyball team to Landmark Conference wins against The Catholic
University of America (13-6, 0-2 Landmark), 3-2, and the United
States Merchant Marine Academy (8-7, 0-2 Landmark), 3-0, on the
first day of round one of Landmark Round-Robin Play at Moravian
College's Johnston Hall on Oct. 3.
Susquehanna (12-9, 2-0 Landmark) has won 10 of its last 11
matches, including a current four-match winning streak. The
Crusaders defeated Catholic, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 26-28, 15-12, and
the USMMA, 25-15, 25-22, 25-21.
SU's freshman defensive specialist Kelly O'Brien
(Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) recorded 42 digs in
the five-setter against the Cardinals and 19 more against the
Mariners.
Crusaders sophomore setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville,
N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) tallied 68 total assists on the
day.
Senior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown,
N.J./Morristown) posted a team-high seven blocks,
including six against Catholic. Hals also chipped
in 22 kills.
Nationally ranked No. 2 Juniata College (14-2, 2-0 Landmark) won
both its matches on this first day, while Goucher College (9-9,
1-1) split two. Catholic and the USMMA lost both of their matches,
while Moravian (10-10, 1-0) and The University of Scranton (5-10,
0-1) won one and lost one, respectively.
