CARLISLE, Pa. -- Nationally ranked No. 18 Dickinson College
scored its only two goals on penalty kicks to escape with a 2-2 tie
in a non-conference men's soccer game with visiting Susquehanna
University at Dickinson Park on Oct. 7.
Susquehanna (3-8-1 overall) held a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute
before Dickinson (8-2-1 overall) tied the game for good on its
second penalty-kick score by the same player.
Sophomore defender Joey Stellato (Convent Station,
N.J./Morristown) and junior midfielder Dan Niesen
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) both scored for the
Crusaders. Stellato tied the game at 1 with his
first collegiate goal when he finished off a pass from sophomore
midfielder Austin Gordon (Millburn, N.J./St. Benedict's
Prep) in the 26th minute, and Niesen made
it 2-1 in the 52nd minute on an unassisted tally.
SU junior B.J. Merriam (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern
Regional) made seven saves before leaving the game before
the tying penalty kick. Freshman Pat Horan (Sutton,
Mass./Worcester Academy) relieved Merriam
and made three saves, including two in overtime, in the game's
final 28 minutes, 32 seconds.
SU Head Coach Jim Findlay remains at 99 career
men's soccer victories.
