SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's junior outside
hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom)
totaled a team-high 26 kills (16 and 10, respectively) to lead the
Susquehanna women's volleyball team to two non-conference wins
against visiting Rowan University (6-13 overall), 3-0, and York
College of Pennsylvania (11-8 overall), 3-0, on the first day of
the Fourth Annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic at Orlando W. Houts
Gymnasium on Oct. 9.
Jankiewicz eclipsed the 1,200-career-kills mark
in the York (Pa.) match and also notched a team-high nine service
aces for SU on the day.
Since starting the season 2-8, Susquehanna (15-9 overall) has
won 13 of its last 14 matches, including seven in a row after
defeating Rowan, 25-13, 25-12, 25-14, and York, 25-17, 25-22,
25-19.
SU sophomore setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville,
N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) recorded a team-high 38 and 31
assists, respectively, in the sweep.
Teammate and freshman defensive specialist Kelly O'Brien
(Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) paced the Crusaders
defense with 51 total digs. O'Brien now has an
amazing 615 digs this season. Kellye Schroeder '09 holds the
university's single-season record with 617.
Freshman opposite hitter Emily Carson (Caldwell,
N.J./James Caldwell) and senior middle hitter Jess
Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) led the
Crusaders with five total blocks each over the two matches.
Montclair State University (6-9 overall) lost both its matches on
this first day, while The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
(16-5 overall) won both of its matches.
