SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore
guard/forward Jessica Zigarelli (Warren, N.J./Watchung
Hills Regional) recorded a game-high and career-high-tying
17 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Susquehanna over
visiting Lycoming College, 79-62, in a non-conference women's
basketball game at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Dec. 7.
SU (4-3 overall) never trailed Lycoming (1-7 overall) and held a
38-31 halftime lead. The Crusaders had their lead cut to two points
with 13 minutes, 13 seconds left in the second half but responded
with a 12–2 run over a 2:30 span to put the game out of
reach. Susquehanna made four straight three-pointers during the run
and finished the game 9-for-22 from long range.
Zigarelli was one of four Crusaders to score in
double-digits and also notched three assists and a team-high two
steals. Teammate and junior forward/center Samantha
Cartwright (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) snagged a game-high
eight rebounds and tallied a career-high 16 points on eight of 10
shooting from the field.
SU's junior guard Erika Barron (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua
Area) led all players with eight assists. Teammate and
senior forward Samantha Jansson (Cumbola, Pa./Nativity
B.V.M.) scored 12 points and pulled down seven boards.
Junior guard Rachael Hughes (Gordon, Pa./North
Schuylkill) chipped in 10 points and added four assists,
while sophomore guard Korey McCaffrey (Millheim, Pa./Penns
Valley Area) tallied nine points on three three-pointers,
two of those coming during SU's game-changing run.
Freshman guard Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) led the
Warriors with 14 points and a game-high three steals. Sophomore
guard Erin Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) tied
team-highs in rebounds with five and assists with two. Teammate and
junior forward Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) also grabbed five
boards and chipped in nine points.
