SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University jumped out to a 2-0
lead at halftime, but visiting Ursinus College battled back for a
3-2 win in double overtime in a non-conference women's soccer game
at Sassafras Fields on Sept. 23.
Junior forward Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove,
Pa./Selinsgrove Area) scored unassisted for her first goal
this season to give Susquehanna (2-4-2 overall) a 1-0 lead in the
24th minute. Junior defender Samantha Farina (Kennett
Square, Pa./Unionville) then scored her team-leading third
goal this season (unassisted)--and the third of her career--off a
direct-kick bender against Ursinus (4-2-0 overall) in the 39th
minute.
All of Farina's goals have come in the last
three games.
The score remained 2-0 until the Bears finally scored in the
66th minute.
The last two Ursinus goals came off corner kicks. The game-tying
score came in the 80th minute, and after a scoreless first
overtime, a Bears player headed in a corner kick for the
game-winner with just 3 minutes, 56 seconds left.
SU's senior Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick
Area) made a game-high 11 saves in a losing effort,
including two in the first overtime.
