Lead Slips Away; SU Falls in Double Overtime, 3-2, to Ursinus

Boxscore

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime, but visiting Ursinus College battled back for a 3-2 win in double overtime in a non-conference women's soccer game at Sassafras Fields on Sept. 23.

Junior forward Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) scored unassisted for her first goal this season to give Susquehanna (2-4-2 overall) a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. Junior defender Samantha Farina (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) then scored her team-leading third goal this season (unassisted)--and the third of her career--off a direct-kick bender against Ursinus (4-2-0 overall) in the 39th minute.

All of Farina's goals have come in the last three games.

The score remained 2-0 until the Bears finally scored in the 66th minute.

The last two Ursinus goals came off corner kicks. The game-tying score came in the 80th minute, and after a scoreless first overtime, a Bears player headed in a corner kick for the game-winner with just 3 minutes, 56 seconds left.

SU's senior Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) made a game-high 11 saves in a losing effort, including two in the first overtime.

Next Game: Saturday, Sept. 26, vs. Catholic (Landmark Conference game), 1 p.m.
