SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's junior outside
hitter and tournament MVP Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton,
Pa./Freedom) totaled a team-high 33 kills (17 and 16,
respectively) to pace Susquehanna women's volleyball to two
non-conference wins against visiting St. Mary's College of Maryland
(9-7 overall), 3-1, and Farleigh Dickinson University- Florham
(13-7 overall), 3-1, on the final day of the 2009 Susquehanna
University Invitational at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Sept. 26.
Jankiewicz also notched four service aces for
SU over the two matches.
Susquehanna (10-9 overall) established a winning record for the
first time this season after defeating St. Mary's (Md.), 19-25,
28-26, 25-23, 25-20, and FDU-Florham, 26-24, 18-25, 25-15, 25-19.
SU sophomore setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville,
N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) tallied 93 total assists in the
two matches, posting 45 and 48, respectively.
Teammate and freshman defensive specialist Kelly O'Brien
(Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) led the way for the
Crusaders with 74 digs to earn all-tournament honors.
Freshman opposite hitter Emily Carson (Caldwell,
N.J./James Caldwell) recorded nine total blocks for the
Crusaders and notched 31 kills in the two matches.
Franklin & Marshall College (14-2 overall) won the tournament
by posting a 4-0 mark. Susquehanna was the runner-up at 3-1, while
St. Mary's (Md.) finished 2-2 to place third. Florham and Wilkes
University (10-8 overall) went 1-3 and 0-4 to finish fourth and
fifth, respectively.
