Boxscore

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's senior guard Ashley Watkins (La Habra Heights, Calif./Rosary) tallied a game-high 14 points, but Susquehanna fell to the nationally ranked No. 19 visitors from Moravian College, 70-53, in a Landmark Conference women's basketball game at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Jan. 15.

Watkins, who came off the bench and played 22 minutes, also made a game-high eight free throws (on 10 attempts) and dished out a team-high-tying two assists. She made three of her five attempts from the field.

SU (7-8, 1-3 Landmark) held its largest lead with the first basket made in the game, but Moravian (12-2, 4-0 Landmark) responded with a quick three-pointer to go up, 3-2.

Susquehanna regained the lead, 12-11, with 7 minutes, 23 seconds left in the half, but that was the last time it led in the contest. The Greyhounds tied the score at 12 on a free throw, and then went on a 14-5 run to go into halftime with a 26-17 advantage.

SU's sophomore guard/forward Jessica Zigarelli (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) snagged a game- and career-high 16 rebounds, while teammate and junior guard Erika Barron (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) chipped in eight points, four boards and two assists. Barron made two of Susquehanna's three three-pointers in the game.

Crusaders junior guard Rachael Hughes (Gordon, Pa./North Schuylkill) added 11 points and three rebounds.

Hughes scored the Crusaders' first seven points of the second half, but the team could never cut the lead to less than six points the rest of the way.

After Moravian sank a pair of free throws to make the score 34-24 with 17 minutes left in the game, it went on a 21-9 run over the next 9:43 to build the lead to 55-33.

The Crusaders were able to cut the lead to 61-49 with 3:15 left on a pair of Watkins free throws, but that's the closest they would get for the remainder of the game.

Moravian was led by senior guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) who notched team-highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate and senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) tied team-highs with two assists and two blocked shots. Stearns also chipped in 10 points. Junior guard/forward Emily Smith (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) also had two assists and scored 12 points, while senior forward Alyssa Bisci (Easton, Pa./Easton) snagged a game-high three steals. Sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) recorded two blocks.

Susquehanna outrebounded the Greyhounds, 48-37, including 14 of the offensive variety, but only shot 32.2 percent from the field (19-for-59). Moravian was nearly perfect from the line, making 18 of its 20 attempts.
