SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's senior forward
Marcus Burke (Hyde Park, Mass./Brimmer and May)
registered a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, but host
Susquehanna lost a Landmark Conference men's basketball game to The
Catholic University of America, 73-59, at Orlando W. Houts
Gymnasium on Jan. 29.
Burke's 12 boards led Susquehanna (11-8, 4-4
Landmark) and tied for the game-high. He also made a game-high
three steals.
Catholic (14-5, 6-2 Landmark) was led by junior forward Jason
Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), who paced all players
with 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field and tied
Burke with 12 rebounds.
Teammate and freshman forward/center Chris Kearney (Centreville,
Va./Westfield HS) added nine boards, and junior guard R.J. Dixon
(Charlotte, N.C./Cannon) had seven to help the Cardinals to a 42-34
advantage on the glass.
Kearney also tallied five points and a game-high four blocked
shots, while Dixon notched 12 points, two assists and a
team-high-tying two steals.
Catholic made 49.0 percent of its field goals to the Crusaders'
30.6 percent. The Cardinals never trailed.
Susquehanna's sophomore guard Spenser Spencer (Seattle,
Wash./Lakeside) scored a team-high 15 points on the
strength of a game-high three three-pointers.
Spencer also had two boards, two steals and a
game-high-tying three assists.
Teammate and senior guard Bryan Majors (Harrisburg,
Pa./Harrisburg) scored 10 points, grabbed four boards and
also made two steals. Junior guard Jason Dawson (Somerset,
N.J./Rutgers Prep) registered seven points, three rebounds
and three assists.
Catholic's freshman guard Shawn Holmes (Pikesville, Md./Calvert
Hall College HS) picked up 16 points on the strength of a game-high
eight free throws (on nine attempts) and added three rebounds and
two steals.
Junior forward Spencer Reed (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield
Memorial) and freshman guard Cody Otto (Glastonbury,
Conn./Glastonbury) both had a team-high three assists. Reed also
registered seven points and five rebounds, while Otto added four
rebounds.
