SELINSGROVE, Pa. – On a night in which storms threatened
the Selinsgrove area, the Susquehanna women's soccer could
not overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit, falling 1-0 to Dickinson on
Monday night.
The game was evenly played in nearly every aspect, but it was
Dickinson (8-2-1) that made one of its two shots on goal count. The
Crusaders (4-8-1), who entered the night on a two-game unbeaten
streak, managed 10 shots in the game, but failed to find the back
of the net.
Freshman goalie Rachel Norbuts (Woodstown,
N.J./Woodstown) was the beneficiary of another solid
defensive performance by SU as she was forced to make only one save
on the night.
Early shots by both teams went right at the opposing goalies,
who made easy saves to keep it a scoreless game more than midway
through the first half.
That ended when, with 11:05 on the clock, Dickinson's
Genevieve Olson from who fired a rocket past Norbuts to put the
Crusaders behind 1-0.
That remained the only misstep for Susquehanna for the remainder
of the game. None of the Red Devils' five second-half shots
again got past Norbuts or the SU defense. Unfortunately, while the
Crusaders also took five shots in the final 45 minutes, the
Susquehanna offense remained stifled and without a goal.
