SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's field hockey team
did not let a 2-0 halftime deficit get them down, as the Crusaders
rebounded to grab a 3-2, overtime win against Kean on Tuesday
night.
With four minutes remaining in the first overtime period,
Rebecca Entwistle (Wall Twp., N.J./Wall) came in
off the bench and almost immediately scored the game winner off a
Julia Amendola (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop
Hoban) assist to cap off SU's (8-6) comeback.
Amendola had a hand in all three of Susquehanna's goal
with three assists. Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central
Bucks South), meanwhile, scored the Crusaders first two
goals, including the one that eventually sent the game to
overtime.
The teams matched each other in nearly every aspect of the game,
with both squads taking 11 shots and the two goalies recording four
saves apiece, with all of SU goalie Erin Ferguson's
(Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca) coming in the second half.
Susquehanna found itself in a 1-0 hole less than two minutes
into the action when Kean's Olivia Triano capitalized on a
penalty corner opportunity by Amie Hoch by re-directing her pass
past goalie Erin Ferguson.
That duo connected on a near carbon-copy goal less than 10
minutes later to make it a 2-0 lead for the Cougars (7-4).
Bradley finally got SU on the scoreboard with 7:21 remaining in
the first half when Amendola's pass found Bradley in front of
the cage. Bradley knocked the pass into the left side of cage to
bring the Crusaders within one of the lead.
It remained a 2-1 Kean lead until there were two minutes left in
regulation. That was when Bradley and Amendola teamed up again with
Bradley scoring the game-tying goal and forcing overtime where
Entwistle came through in the clutch to hand SU the win.
The win was the Crusaders' second in a row and third in
their last four games.
