SCRANTON, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey remained
undefeated in conference play with its 2-1 win over Scranton on
Saturday afternoon.
Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South)
and Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton)
provided the offense for SU (6-4, 2-0) and goalie Margaret
Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern) made four saves to
preserve the one-goal Crusader victory over the Royals (4-5, 0-1).
Ruth had a particularly active first half, registering three of her
four saves in the first 35 minutes.
Bradley also added an assist on the team's final goal for
a three-point afternoon.
SU held a 14-5 edge in total shots and had an 11-5 advantage in
penalty corners.
It was a quiet first half offensively speaking as it remained
scoreless with less than eight minutes to play. Bradley broke that
scoreless tie with an unassisted goal, her ninth score of the
season, with 27:57 on the clock. That 1-0 SU lead remained the
score at the midway point.
Ten minutes into the second half, Scranton's Caitlin
Liberatore scored the equalizer on a 12-yard blast in front of the
cage.
It took SU a little more than 90 seconds to respond when Bradley
connected with Waleko, whose 14-yards found the inside top left
side of the cage to make it 2-1.
Susquehanna's defense ensured that the one-goal lead held
up, with the Royals managing just three shots in the final
period.
