SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University's field
hockey team defeated Landmark rival Moravian College, 6-0, on
Senior Day on Oct. 23.
All three seniors that played in the game recorded at least one
point.
Senior back Julia Amendola (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop
Hoban) notched the first goal for the Crusaders (10-6,
4-1) in the 15th minute off a centering pass to the top of the D by
junior back Diana Mask (Wilmington, Del./Mount
Pleasant).
Just eight minutes later, Mask picked up her
second assist of the game when her shot was deflected in by senior
midfielder Rebecca Entwistle (Wall Twp.,
N.J./Wall) to give SU a 2-0 lead over Moravian (5-10,
0-5).
SU increased its lead to 3-0, after sophomore midfielder
Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks
South) netted a penalty stroke just 1:58 after the
Entwistle goal.
Less than a minute later, Bradley registered her
team-leading 15th goal of the season after batting in a deflected
shot out of mid air by senior back Samantha Reitz
(Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) to end the scoring in
the first half. The assist is the first one in
Reitz's four-year career.
In the second half, it did not take the Crusaders long to continue
their scoring. Entwistle tallied her second goal
of the contest off a pass from Bradley just six
minutes in.
The final goal of the contest was scored off another deflected
shot. Amendola's shot on goal was
re-directed by freshman forward Danielle Waleko (Wainscott,
N.Y./East Hampton) in the 58th minute of play.
Junior Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca)
earned her seventh victory of the season and picked up her fourth
shutout of the year by making five saves in all 70 minutes of play.
Ferguson is tied for second in the Landmark this
season in shutouts.
The Crusaders controlled the game offensively, holding a 17-5
advantage in shots and forced 15 corners to Moravian's
seven.
With the win, Susquehanna has clinched a spot in the Landmark
Conference championship for the third straight season. The
Crusaders are currently a half game ahead of Catholic and Drew for
the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
