Field Hockey Posts Second-Straight Shut Out with 9-0 Win Over Elmira

Boxscore

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Six different players scored for the Susquehanna University field hockey team in a 9-0 rout of the visitors from Elmira College at Sassafras Fields on Oct. 27.

Freshman forward Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) led the way for the Crusaders (11-5) with two goals and an assist.

Waleko netted both her goals in the second half and dished out her assist on the final goal of the first half on her deflected shot from outside the scoring area by fellow freshman forward Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa./Gettysburg Area).

Reichart also registered two goals in the contest. Her second came unassisted when the Elmira (1-14) goalkeeper left the goal to challenge a pass and left Reichart with a wide open net.

The Crusaders first goal was scored just 3 minutes, 54 seconds into the contest by senior midfielder Rebecca Entwistle (Wall Twp.,. N.J./Wall). Senior back Julia Amendola (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) picked up her first of two assists on that goal.

Amendola is now tied for the team lead with 10 assists on the year.

SU notched its second goal just 12 minutes later on a rebounded shot put back by junior midfielder Anna Spisak (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs). Spisak netted two goals in the victory, her second coming on a centering pass from Entwistle.

Crusaders junior back Laurel Monaghan (East Fallowfield, Pa./Coatesville Area) and sophomore midfielder Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) added the other two SU goals.

Juniors Heather Moore (Columbus, N.J./Peddie) and Diana Mask (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) dished out an assist each. Moore's assist came on Waleko's second score, while Mask assisted on the Bradley score.

SU's junior Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca) earned her eighth win of the season and second-straight shutout in all but 50 seconds of action. Ferguson made two saves and was replaced by freshman Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern), who stepped in to stop a penalty stroke in the first half.

SU has outscored its last two opponents, 15-0.

The Crusaders have clinched a spot in the Landmark Conference championships, but can lock up a No.2 seed with a win at Drew on Saturday.

Next Game: Saturday, Oct. 30, at Drew, 1 p.m.
