SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Six different players scored for the
Susquehanna University field hockey team in a 9-0 rout of the
visitors from Elmira College at Sassafras Fields on Oct. 27.
Freshman forward Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East
Hampton) led the way for the Crusaders (11-5) with two
goals and an assist.
Waleko netted both her goals in the second half
and dished out her assist on the final goal of the first half on
her deflected shot from outside the scoring area by fellow freshman
forward Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa./Gettysburg
Area).
Reichart also registered two goals in the
contest. Her second came unassisted when the Elmira (1-14)
goalkeeper left the goal to challenge a pass and left
Reichart with a wide open net.
The Crusaders first goal was scored just 3 minutes, 54 seconds
into the contest by senior midfielder Rebecca Entwistle
(Wall Twp.,. N.J./Wall). Senior back Julia
Amendola (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) picked up her
first of two assists on that goal.
Amendola is now tied for the team lead with 10
assists on the year.
SU notched its second goal just 12 minutes later on a rebounded
shot put back by junior midfielder Anna Spisak (Boiling
Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs). Spisak
netted two goals in the victory, her second coming on a centering
pass from Entwistle.
Crusaders junior back Laurel Monaghan (East Fallowfield,
Pa./Coatesville Area) and sophomore midfielder
Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South)
added the other two SU goals.
Juniors Heather Moore (Columbus, N.J./Peddie) and
Diana Mask (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant)
dished out an assist each. Moore's assist
came on Waleko's second score, while
Mask assisted on the Bradley
score.
SU's junior Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel,
N.J./Seneca) earned her eighth win of the season and
second-straight shutout in all but 50 seconds of action.
Ferguson made two saves and was replaced by
freshman Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern),
who stepped in to stop a penalty stroke in the first half.
SU has outscored its last two opponents, 15-0.
The Crusaders have clinched a spot in the Landmark Conference
championships, but can lock up a No.2 seed with a win at Drew on
Saturday.
