Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team was
unable to overcome an early, 2-0 deficit to Landmark Conference foe
Juniata, falling 2-1 to the Eagles on Wednesday night.
The loss was SU's (6-6, 2-1) first conference defeat of
the season.
Juniata (10-3, 3-0) held an 18-6 edge in shots, keeping SU
goalie Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca) busy all night.
The senior finished with nine saves and faced 11 shots on goal.
The Crusaders took just six shots in the contest, all of which
were on goal, led by Erica Reichart's (Littlestown,
Pa./Gettysburg Area) four.
Juniata got on the board early with two goals in the opening 10
minutes of the action, the first coming from Caroline Phillips
following an Eagles penalty corner. The second was scored less than
four minutes later when Caitlyn Bowman stole the ball from an SU
defender and passed it off to Kim Amrod, who put it past
Susquehanna Ferguson for the 2-0 lead.
SU had a chance to score more than midway through the half but
Eagles goalie Moira Nugent came out of the cage to make a great
diving save on a shot by Reichart to preserve her squad's 2-0
advantage.
The Crusaders kept Juniata off the scoreboard for the remainder
of the game, and with less than 12 minutes remaining in the final
half, finally snapped the Eagles' shutout. Reichart had a
shot blocked, but Anna Spisak (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling
Springs) grabbed the rebound and sent it to Ally
Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) who put it in
the cage and made it a one-goal game.
That marked the final scoring in the game, however, as Juniata
held on to its 2-1 lead.
