HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's soccer
team certainly had its chances on offense to score, out-shooting
Penn State-Harrisburg 25-9 on Wednesday night, but ultimately the
two teams ended their double-overtime game in a 1-1 tie.
Marissa DeParto (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian
Hills) netted the equalizer with five minutes to play but
another 30 minutes of bonus soccer passed without another score for
either side.
SU (3-7-1) was led by DeParto's five shots, although five
different players took at least two shots in the game for the
Crusaders.
Freshman goalie Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville,
N.J./Woodstown) played all 120 minutes and finished with
five saves, including two critical stops in the final overtime
period.
SU fired off 10 shots in the opening half but none were
converted into goals as it stood 0-0 at the midway point.
Harrisburg's Kara Hoy finally broke that tie 17 minutes
into the second period thanks to an unassisted goal.
For 23 minutes the Lions maintained that one-goal lead until
DeParto scored to force overtime.
Susquehanna held PSU-Harrisburg without a shot in the first
overtime period while taking two of its own. In the second and
final overtime session, both teams managed two shots but again none
found the back of the net and time expired to end the match in a
draw.
