SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Not only did the Susquehanna
women's volleyball team grab two wins on Friday night at its
fifth-annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic, two individuals also
made history for the SU volleyball program. The Crusaders won 3-0
over both Albright and Washington & Jefferson.
Senior co-captain Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton,
Pa./Freedom) became the program's all-time kill
leader. She finished with 18 kills in the team's two matches
on Friday, giving her 1,627 for her career.
In addition, head coach Kuuipo Tom tied for the
most wins by a head coach in team history with 153, matching Bill
Switala (1993-2002), and became the fastest coach to reach that
mark.
Susquehanna (17-8) opened the tournament by defeating Albright
25-15, 25-17, 25-23. Jankiewicz entered the day needing only three
to tie for the lead and with eight against the Lions, quickly moved
into sole possession of first place. Jankiewicz also added
two service aces in the sweep.
Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell)
led SU with nine kills and added seven digs against Albright.
Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South
Manor) recorded a double-double with a match-high 25
assists and 11 digs.
In the nightcap, the Crusaders recorded another sweep with
25-20, 25-15, 26-24 wins over the Presidents. Jankiewicz led the
team with 10 kills to go along with five digs. Carson added another
nine kills of her own.
St. Angelo notched a match-best 28 assists while both
Emily Bwint (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley)
and Kelly O'Brien (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South
Manor) reached double-digit dig totals with 12 and 16,
respectively.
Susquehanna wraps-up the tournament with two more matches
tomorrow – 11 a.m. vs. Rowan and 1 p.m. vs. York (Pa.).
