TOWSON, Md. – Erica Reichart's
second-half goal helped propel the Susquehanna field hockey team to
a 1-0 road victory against Goucher on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Reichart's score early in
the final period stood as the game winner as the Crusaders (7-6,
3-1) shut out Goucher (3-9, 0-4) to grab their third conference win
of the fall.
SU had 19 shots to the Gophers' seven and goalie
Erin Ferguson finished the afternoon with three
saves in her 70 minutes of action.
Reichart was one of six Susquehanna players with multiple shots
in the game, led by Rebecca Entwistle's
four.
Against the SU defense, Goucher had only one shot in the first
half and goalie Micki Manheimer had a busy day, making seven saves
against the aggressive Crusaders' attack.
Despite 15 shots in the first 35 minutes, Susquehanna could not
translate one of those shots into a goal and it stood 0-0 at
halftime.
It was only a matter of time before the Crusaders finally saw
things fall their way. Five minutes into the final period,
Julia Amendola's short pass found Reichart
directly in front of the cage and Reichart knocked it past
Manheimer for a 1-0 SU edge.
Compared the first half, SU's offense was stifled, as the
Crusaders managed only four shots, including Reichart's goal.
Thanks to continued solid defense effort, however, it made no
difference as Goucher remained without a goal for the entirety of
the game.
The win was Susquehanna's second in its last three games,
as well as its sixth one-goal victory of the season.
