SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's
volleyball team capped off another successful tournament weekend
with a split on Saturday to take three of its four matches at its
fifth-annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic.
The Crusaders (19-8) opened Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Rowan
before falling 0-3 to York (Pa.). The opening win, however, was
another historic one for the program has head coach Kuuipo
Tom took sole possession as the all-time winningest coach
in team history with 154.
SU grabbed 25-19, 25-22 and 26-24 decisions from Rowan to start
Saturday on a winning note. Senior Lindsey
Jankiewicz, who became the team's all-time kill
leader on Friday evening, tied for the team lead with 11 kills to
go along with three digs. Joining her with 11 kills was
Emily Carson, who added 12 digs for a
double-double effort.
Shona St. Angelo continued to pace the
attacking game with her 33 assists and eight digs. Rookie
Emily Bwint added 12 digs of her own to go along
with a team-leading three service aces.
The Crusaders faced tough competition in their final match of
the weekend, going up against a one-loss York squad. The Spartans
won in straight sets over SU, 25-21, 25-20, 26-24.
Carson and Jankiewicz again led the attacking game with eight
kills apiece. Carson tallied 11 digs, bringing her total for the
day to 23. She also added a match-high four service aces.
St. Angelo tacked on 21 more assists and nine digs.
York captured the tournament title with SU serving as
runner-up.
