Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's
basketball team can't seem to get enough basketball lately.
Playing its second game in three days, SU used a well-balanced team
effort to grab a 66-65 overtime win against Lycoming for the
Crusaders' second-straight OT victory.
Trailing 65-64 with time expirting in overtime, Gina
Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa./Wallenpaupack) came through
with a last-second layup to defeat Lycoming on its home court.
Susquehanna (4-3) saw four of its players reach double figures
with senior Nikki Schneck's (Cresco, Pa./Pocono
Mountain East) 14 leading the way. Classmate
Rachael Hughes (Gordon, Pa./North Schuylkill)
added 12 and both players finished with six rebounds. Palazzi and
Erika Barron (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) added 10
points apiece and Barron had a double-double of a rare kind, with
10 assists in 38 minutes of action.
SU fell behind early, trailing by eight (10-2) after less than
five minutes of action. The Crusaders went nearly six minutes
without a point, until Rachel Schaible's (Blue Bell,
Pa./Wissahickon) jumper at 13:19 made it 10-4.
Susquehanna fell behind by double digits, 19-8, at the 8:33 mark
but rallied to tie the game at 21 on a Schneck three-pointer with
4:17 remaining in the half.
From there the lead switched hands before Samantha
Cartwright (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) knotted it at 29-all
on a jumper to end the half.
The second half followed the trend of the late first-half action
as both teams battled to grab and maintain a lead. At one point SU
held a seven-point lead (43-36) on a Barron free throw with 12
minutes to play.
However, Lycoming used a late rally to tie the game at 50 with
less than four minutes remaining in regulation. It remained tied at
59-59 with six seconds to play and Barron's last-second
three-point attempt was off the mark, sending the game to
overtime.
The teams continued to swap baskets until Palazzi came through
with the game-winning layup.
