SCRANTON, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's freshman forward
Harvey Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn./St. Thomas More)
registered a team-high 27 points on 11-for-14 shooting from the
floor, but Susquehanna fell to host The University of Scranton,
87-76, in a Landmark Conference men's basketball game at John Long
Center on Feb. 12.
Pannell also made three steals and five of his six
free-throw attempts.
SU (13-10, 6-6 Landmark) led for the majority of the first half and
held its largest lead of the game, 29-24, with 9 minutes, 14
seconds left before intermission. Scranton (14-8, 8-3 Landmark)
answered right back with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 29 and take
a slim 41-40 lead into the break.
SU's senior forward Marcus Burke (Hyde Park, Mass./Brimmer
and May) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and
chipped in 15 points and three steals. Teammate and senior guard
Bryan Majors (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) tied a
game-high with five steals and dished out a game-high seven
assists. Majors added nine points for the
Crusaders.
Sophomore guard Spenser Spencer (Seattle,
Wash./Lakeside) came off the bench to tally 12 points,
five assists and four boards. Spencer was a
perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
The beginning of the second half left off where the first half
ended, as the Scranton lead never grew to more than four points
until 10:44 left in the game. From there, the Royals used a 16-8
run to build the lead to 13 points, 78-65.
SU tried to fight back by putting together an 11-1 run over the
next 3:28 to cut the deficit to just three points. Luck ran out
though, as Scranton shut out SU the rest of the way and scored
eight unanswered points.
The Royals were led by senior forward Eli Londo (Hamlin, Pa./North
Pocono), who scored a game-high 33 points on 11-for-14 shooting
from the field and blocked a game-high four shots. Londo also
grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Teammate and sophomore guard Dan
Hilferty (Ardmore, Pa./Episcopal Academy) dished out a team-high
five assists, while freshman guard Travis Farrell [Middletown,
N.J./Christian Brothers Academy (N.Y.)] made a game-high-tying five
steals.
Susquehanna made 15 steals and grabbed 13 offensive boards, but
Scranton shot 51.9 percent from the field and went to the line 30
times (making 22).
The game saw 10 ties and 17 lead changes.
