ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore attack
Ally Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) scored a
team-high five goals and dished out an assist to lead visiting
Susquehanna to a 19-13 non-conference women's lacrosse win over
Lebanon Valley College at Henry and Gladys Arnold Field on March
11.
Susquehanna (1-3 overall) earned its first win of the 2010
season after scoring the first three goals of the game and leading
Lebanon Valley (1-1 overall) at halftime, 8-7.
Down, 13-10, with 9 minutes, 24 seconds left in the second half,
LVC seemed poised to get back in the game when an SU player was
sent off with a red card.
The Flying Dutchmen then scored a man-up goal with 9:20 left to
cut the score to 13-11, but the Crusaders scored six consecutive
man-down goals after that, including two each by freshman attack
Phoebe Nicholls (Princeton, N.J./Rutgers Prep) and
Bauer, to put the game away at 19-11 with just
4:43 left. Nicholls finished with three goals and
two assists.
LVC scored late twice to provide the final margin.
SU also got four goals, a game-high three assists and a
game-high-tying four draw controls from junior midfielder
Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS).
Teammate and sophomore attack Erin Dyer (West Caldwell,
N.J./James Caldwell) scored three goals to go with four
ground balls.
Junior attack Kirsten Detwiler (Montchanin,
Del./Wilmington Friends), freshman midfielder
Lindsey Derstine (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern
Lehigh), sophomore defender Brittany McCann
(Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and freshman
attack Alicia Large (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little)
each scored one goal for the Crusaders. Detwiler
had two assists, and Derstine notched one.
McCann had four draw controls and a
game-high-tying six ground balls.
Freshman midfielder Emily Jones (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Long
Island Lutheran) led SU and tied for the game-high with
three caused turnovers. Jones also had five ground
balls. Teammate and sophomore midfielder Marra Landino
(Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union Academy) scooped up six
ground balls.
Junior defender Abbie Handerhan
(Arlington, Va./Connelly School of Holy Child) made her
second career appearance in goal and played all 60 minutes, earning
her first win by making a game-high 13 saves and collecting five
ground balls.
