GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore
midfielder Luke Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison)
scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on
another to help lead visiting Susquehanna to a 6-5 non-conference
men's lacrosse win at GMC Athletic Complex on March 13.
SU (4-1 overall) won its fourth straight game and ended a
four-game winning streak by Gwynedd-Mercy (4-1 overall).
Susquehanna led, 5-4, heading into the fourth quarter before the
Griffins tied the game with exactly 10 minutes left.
Delavan answered that with a man-up goal just 1
minute, 2 seconds later off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Billy Spack (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) for the
game's final tally.
The Crusaders' last three goals came during man-up
opportunities. SU finished the game 3-for-3 in those situations,
while Gwynedd-Mercy was 0-for-1.
Like Delavan, Spack and
sophomore attack Tim Pastore (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood) both notched two goals and an assist in
this game for the Crusaders.
Freshman attack Sean Ledwick (Weston,
Conn./Weston) assisted on Delavan's first
goal to open the scoring with nine minutes left in the first
quarter.
The Griffins scored the next three goals to end the first, but
SU answered with goals from Pastore,
Spack and Pastore again to close
the second period with a 4-3 Crusaders lead.
Pastore assisted on Spack's first
goal, and Delavan assisted on the second
Pastore marker.
Gwynedd-Mercy scored first in the second half to tie the game at
4, but SU answered again, getting another goal from
Spack--off an assist from freshman midfielder
Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham HS)--to set
the stage for the fourth quarter.
Susquehanna's junior midfielder Ryan Oakes (North
Yarmouth, Maine/Cheverus) led all players with nine
faceoffs wins and collected a game-high-tying four ground balls.
Junior defender Jimmy Warburton (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) and freshman midfielder Marcus
Cheatham (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola HS) both collected four
ground balls for the Crusaders as well.
Sophomore Jordan Daney (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower
Merion) earned the win in goal, making five saves in all
60 minutes, including two in the fourth quarter to protect the
final lead.
