SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore attack
Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) notched a hat trick, but Susquehanna lost to the
visitors from Franklin & Marshall College, 9-6, in a
non-conference men's lacrosse game at Sassafras Fields on March
17.
Breakey also picked up one ground ball and took a
team-high seven shots in the game.
Susquehanna (4-2 overall) trailed Franklin & Marshall (2-2
overall), 4-0, after the first quarter, but answered back with
three goals in the second period. The Crusaders went into halftime
down, 5-3.
Breakey got SU on the board with 12 minutes, 11
seconds to go before halftime off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Rory Meagher (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central
Catholic).
Crusaders freshman attack Sean Ledwick (Weston,
Conn./Weston) notched a man-up goal with 4:05 left in the
half. Sophomore attack Tim Pastore (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood) handed out one of his three assists on
that goal.
With two seconds left in the second, Breakey
netted his second goal of the contest, while sophomore midfielder
Luke Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) registered
his first of two assists.
SU struck first in the second half to cut the F&M lead to
one goal, 5-4, with 9:26 remaining in the third. Freshman attack
Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola HS)
tallied the goal, and Pastore dished out his
second assist of the contest. Cheatham had four
ground balls as well.
After F&M ran off three straight goals over a three-minute
span, Breakey and Pastore hooked
up for their third goal and assist, respectively, with 1:43 to go
in the third period.
Ledwick notched his team-leading 12th goal of the
season to start the scoring in the final period with 7:13 left.
Delavan recorded the assist, his fifth of the
season.
Susquehanna had a chance to bring the game to within one goal
with 6:51 left, but a point-blank shot was saved by the Diplomats
goalkeeper. That was the last shot SU was able to take.
Junior midfielder Ryan Oakes (North Yarmouth,
Maine/Cheverus) won nine faceoffs on the day and picked up
a game-high six ground balls.
SU's freshman Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) played all 60 minutes in net and made 11 saves
despite the loss.
The contest was evenly matched in almost all aspect of the game,
but F&M held the edge in shots, 39-28.
