WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's junior midfielder
Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS)
tallied a game-high-tying three goals to lead visiting Susquehanna
past Lycoming College, 9-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse
game at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex on March 18.
Wright also won a team-best two draw controls and
took a game-high-tying six shots.
SU (2-4 overall) fell behind Lycoming (2-3 overall), 2-0, after
the first 2 minutes, 55 seconds of the game but fought back with
two goals of its own to tie the game with 21 minutes left in the
half.
Sophomore attack Ally Bauer (Kinnelon,
N.J./Kinnelon) netted the first Crusaders goal unassisted
4:30 into the first half. Wright tied the game up
off a pass from Bauer just 3:30 after
Bauer's goal.
The Warriors responded less than a minute later to regain the lead
at 3-2 before SU notched the final two goals of the half to take a
4-3 lead into the break.
Again, it was Bauer and Wright
that registered goals for the Crusaders. Bauer
scored another unassisted goal with 14:31 left, and
Wright finished off a pass from sophomore attack
Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell)
with 4:35 to go in the first half.
Lycoming struck first in the second half, but SU scored two
straight goals yet again. This time it was sophomore midfielder
Caroline Sisson (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) with an
unassisted goal with 25:36 left in the contest.
Wright followed Sisson with her
third goal of the game with 21:05 remaining to increase the SU lead
to 6-4. Bauer handed out the second of
her three assists on that goal.
Lycoming brought the game back to 6-5 just 1:04 later, but
freshman midfielder Lindsey Derstine (Coopersburg,
Pa./Southern Lehigh) finished off the third
Bauer assist with 18:43 to go to bring the lead
back out to two goals, 7-5.
After the Warriors scored again to make the game 7-6, SU once
again scored two consecutive goals--the fourth time in the game--to
push the lead out to 9-6. Freshman attack Phoebe
Nicholls (Princeton, N.J./Rutgers Prep) scored both SU
goals, each of them unassisted.
With just 1:08 left in the game, Lycoming netted the final goal
and had one more chance to bring the game to within one score, but
its final shot was saved by freshman Emily Stankaitis
(Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima).
Stankaitis played all 60 minutes in goal and
stopped eight shots to pick up her first collegiate win.
Dyer led the Crusaders with three ground balls,
while sophomore defender Brittany McCann (Glenolden,
Pa./Interboro) caused a team-best two turnovers.
