SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Freshman Richard
Fitzsimmons [Brielle, N.J./Loomis Chaffee (Conn.)] earned
a third-flight singles win and a first-flight doubles win to lead
visiting Susquehanna University to a 5-4 non-conference men's
tennis victory over Lycoming College at West Branch Tennis Club on
March 21.
The match was the first of the spring schedule for Susquehanna
(3-3 overall) and the first match overall this season for Lycoming
(0-1 overall.)
SU won four of six singles matches, including a 6-4, 7-5
Fitzsimmons win; a 6-4, 6-3 first-flight win by
fellow freshman Michael Hickey (Yarmouth,
Maine/Yarmouth); a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory by sophomore
Matthew Quadrini [Escondido, Calif./Brunswick
(Maine)] in the fifth flight; and a 6-2, 6-3 win by junior
Bruce Osborn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) in the sixth
flight.
Osborn is now 4-0 in singles play this season.
Hickey's appearance at first-flight singles was
the first of his collegiate career.
The Crusaders' lone doubles win came in the first flight by way
of an 8-5 victory from Fitzsimmons and fellow
freshman Mats Haaland (Brunswick,
Maine/Brunswick).
