SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore attack
Tim Pastore (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) notched a
goal and handed out four assists, but Susquehanna fell to visiting
Goucher College, 11-7, in a Landmark Conference men's lacrosse game
at Sassafras Fields on March 27.
Pastore assisted on the first SU goal scored by
fellow sophomore attack Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Cumberland Valley) with 9 minutes, 49 seconds left in
the second quarter. Pastore also picked up one
ground ball on the day, and Breakey netted a hat
trick.
Susquehanna (5-4, 0-1 Landmark) fell behind Goucher (6-3, 1-0
Landmark), 4-0, just 2:22 into the second period and could never
close the deficit to within two goals for the remainder of the
contest.
After the Breakey goal, Pastore
registered an unassisted man-up goal just 1:22 later to cut the
score to 4-2.
Goucher increased its lead back out to four goals, 6-2, but
freshman midfielder Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown,
Md./Loyola HS) finished off Pastore's
second assist, cutting the lead to 6-3. Cheatham
also had an assist and three ground balls in the contest.
The Gophers scored the final goal of the first half and netted the
first two goals to begin the third quarter to build their lead to
9-3 with just 1:26 left in the period.
Breakey tallied his second score of the day on a
pass from sophomore midfielder Billy Spack (Arlington,
Va./Yorktown) with 55 seconds left before the final
quarter of play, bringing the Goucher lead back down to 9-4.
Spack picked up a ground ball in the game.
SU struck first in the fourth quarter with 10:32 remaining on a
goal by freshman midfielder Tylere Fritts (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham HS). Pastore registered his
third assist on the score.
Another Goucher goal brought the game back out to 10-5, but the
Crusaders would not go down without a fight.
Breakey and Pastore hooked up
again with 4:43 to go in regulation to make the game 10-6.
With 2:19 left in the game, freshman attack Sean Ledwick
(Weston, Conn./Weston) registered his team-high-tying 16th
goal of the year on a pass from Cheatham to make
the score 10-7, but SU only took one more shot before Goucher added
an insurance goal with 34 seconds left in the game.
Junior midfielder Ryan Oakes (North Yarmouth,
Maine/Cheverus) won nine faceoffs and picked up six ground
balls, while junior defender Jimmy Warburton (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham HS) scooped up a team-high seven ground
balls.
Crusaders freshman Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) fell to 1-2 on the year but made a game-high 20
saves in all 60 minutes of action in goal.
