SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Susquehanna University men's tennis team
won its 2009-10 Landmark Conference opener against the visitors
from Goucher College, 5-4, at the James W. Garrett Sports Complex
on March 27.
Freshman Mats Haaland (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick)
won a straight-sets match at second-flight singles for Susquehanna
(5-3, 1-0 Landmark), 6-4, 6-1, over his Goucher (1-7, 0-1 Landmark)
opponent.
Fellow freshman Richard Fitzsimmons (Brielle, N.J./Lommis
Chaffee, Conn.) was a three-sets winner from third-flight,
6-4, 3-6, 6-0 while junior Bruce Osburn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre
Area) recorded the final straight-sets victory from the
sixth flight, 6-0, 6-2.
Osborn is now 6-0 in singles this season and in
his career.
Fitzsimmons and Haaland earned a
point from first-flight doubles, dropping their Gophers opponents,
8-2.
Junior William Mellor (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) and sophomore Grant Uber (Biglerville,
Pa./Biglerville) tallied the other SU point at
third-flight doubles, defeating their opponents, 8-6.
