LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Susquehanna University's freshman attack
Sean Ledwick (Weston, Conn./Weston) tallied a
game-high five goals on nine shots to lead visiting Susquehanna to
a 17-6 non-conference men's lacrosse game win at Randolph College
on March 6.
Susquehanna (1-1 overall) notched the first two goals of the
contest, both by Ledwick. His first goal was
assisted by sophomore attack Tim Pastore (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood), while Ledwick's second
was unassisted.
Randolph (0-4 overall) answered back with one goal with just 14
seconds remaining in the first quarter before SU netted four
straight goals over a 5-minute, 25-second span to begin the second
quarter and increase its lead to 6-1.
Crusaders sophomore midfielder Billy Spack (Arlington,
Va., Yorktown) notched the first two goals of the quarter
(three in the game) on assists from freshman midfielder
Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham HS) and
sophomore midfielder Luke Delavan (Madison,
N.J./Madison).
Ledwick scored his third and fourth goals after
Spack. Ledwick's third score,
with 8:17 left in the second quarter was assisted again by
Pastore. Pastore had three
assists, a game-high eight ground balls and two goals in the win.
Randolph cut the score to 6-2 with five minutes to go in the
half. The Crusaders responded with goals by
Pastore and sophomore attack Dustin
Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to bring
the game back out to 8-2 and eventually 9-3 at the half.
Breakey assisted Pastore's goal,
and junior defender Jimmy Warburton (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) assisted on the Breakey
tally.
The final goal for SU of the first half was tallied by
Delavan with 22 seconds left on a pass from
Breakey.
Spack started the scoring in the second half with
his third goal of the game to make the advantage 10-3. He then
assisted on a man-up goal by Fritts just 1:14
apart.
After another WildCats goal, Susquehanna went on a three-goal run
to increase its lead to 14-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Freshman midfielder Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown,
Md./Loyola HS) was the sixth of eight different Crusaders
to score a goal. Cheatham was assisted by
Pastore with 4:12 left in the third period.
Pastore and Ledwick registered
the final two goals of the quarter.
Crusaders freshman midfielder Jon Horbert (Longwood,
Fla./Lake Brantley) notched two fourth-quarter goals,
while sophomore attack Matt Anzalone (Westfield,
N.J./Oratory Prep) netted one.
Horbert's second goal was assisted by freshman
midfielder Nick Morrell (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley)
with 1:14 left in the game. Anazalone's goal came
on an assist from sophomore midfielder Jake Griffith (Wye
Mills, Md./Easton).
Crusaders junior midfielder Ryan Oakes (North Yarmouth,
Maine/Cheverus) won 14 of 18 faceoffs and also picked up
six ground balls.
Freshman Blake Middendorf (Wayne, Pa./Radnor)
recorded the win by making five saves in 50:37 of action. Sophomore
Anthony Maiorella (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain
Lakes) played the other 2:27 and stopped two shots.
The Crusaders picked up 52 ground balls to Randolph's 28 and
outshot the WildCats, 43-23.
