WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's freshman attack
Sean Ledwick (Weston, Conn./Weston) scored a goal
with 2 minutes, 5 seconds left in overtime against Washington &
Jefferson College to end a non-conference men's lacrosse game, 6-5,
at Cameron Stadium on March 8.
Ledwick finished off a pass from sophomore
attack Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) for his second goal of the game and seventh in the
past two contests. Breakey, who leads Susquehanna
(2-1 overall) this season with eight points, notched three assists
against Washington & Jefferson (1-2 overall).
W&J opened the scoring with 9:36 left the first quarter, but
SU's freshman midfielder Tylere Fritts (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham HS) answered back with an unassisted marker
with 4:54 to go in the first to tie the game. Teammate and fellow
freshman midfielder Jon Horbert (Longwood, Fla./Lake
Brantley) then scored less than a minute later on a
Breakey assist for a 2-1 lead.
The Presidents scored the only goal of the second quarter to
close the half tied at 2.
They scored the first two goals of the third quarter as well to
go up, 4-2, but sophomore midfielder Luke Delavan (Madison,
N.J./Madison) netted a goal with just three seconds left
in the third to bring the gap to 4-3. Freshman midfielder
Brian Sowyrda (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) assisted.
The Crusaders scored then scored the first two goals of the
fourth quarter to take their second lead of the game, 5-4.
Ledwick picked up the first of those with an
unassisted marker on a man-up situation with 13:02 left in
regulation. Sophomore attack Tim Pastore (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood) scored the latter off an assist from
Breakey with 5:59 left.
W&J then forced overtime on a goal with 4:55 to go, setting
the stage for Ledwick's winner, which sent the
Crusaders sidelines onto the field in celebration.
SU held a 33-24 advantage in shots and collected 41 ground balls
to the Presidents' 23.
Ledwick and SU's junior defender Jimmy
Warburton (Chatham, N.J./Chatham HS) led all players with
seven ground balls each. Teammate and freshman midfielder
Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola HS)
collected six ground balls.
The Crusaders won nine of 13 faceoffs, led by junior midfielder
Ryan Oakes (North Yarmouth, Maine/Cheverus), who
won nine of 12.
Freshman Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) earned the win in goal by making eight saves in all
62:55.
