ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Susquehanna University softball team split
a non-conference neutral-site doubleheader with Bloomfield College
at Disney's Wide World of Sports on March 9.
Bloomfield (2-2 overall), an NCAA Division II team, won the
first game, 6-0, but Susquehanna (5-1 overall), a Division III
team, took the second, 6-2.
SU's junior Cara Swerdlow (Bloomfield,
N.J./Bloomfield) pitched her third straight complete game
in the opener but suffered her first loss of the season by allowing
five hits and three walks and hitting two batters. She struck out
10 hitters though.
The Crusaders offense was stymied, collecting just three hits.
Sophomore outfielder Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J./Indian
Hills) had two of those, going 2-for-3. Junior infielder
Taylor Crawford (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley
HS) had the other, doubling in three at bats.
Freshman Sarah Hoffman (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing
Valley) moved to 3-0 this season by pitching all of Game
2--her third straight complete game. Hoffman
allowed five hits and struck out one batter.
Susquehanna notched seven hits and two walks in the nightcap,
led by senior outfielder Deanna Anderson (Coal Twp.,
Pa./Shamokin Area), who went 2-for-2--both triples--scored
a run and drove in another.
Teammate and junior infielder Brennan Balfour (Cape
Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) went 1-for-3 in Game 2
with a double, a run batted in and a run scored. Junior infielder
Shelly Landis (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock
Mennonite), junior infielder/pitcher Kim Rubino
(Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) and senior infielder
Katie Connors (Laflin, Pa./Pittston Area) each
went 1-for-3 with an RBI as well. Landis and
Rubino both scored once too.
Senior catcher Kelli Holota (Spring Lake,
N.J./Livingston) went 1-for-2 with a run.
