Game 2 Boxscore

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The visiting Susquehanna University softball team swept a Landmark Conference doubleheader from The Catholic University of America, 4-0, 9-0, at Raymond A. DuFour Center on April 1.

Susquehanna (16-4, 4-0 Landmark) received back-to-back shutouts from junior Cara Swerdlow (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield). SU has now posted three straight shutouts on its way to eight straight wins.

Swerdlow improved to 10-2 this season by limiting Catholic (16-8, 1-3 Landmark) to just three hits in Game 1 and another three in Game 2. She allowed two walks in the first game and six more in the second but struck out a total of 11 batters (six, then five) to move within six strikeouts of the Crusaders career record of 442 set by Kristen Hogan '01 from 1998 to 2001.

Swerdlow is also now one shutout away from tying SU's career record of 13 set by Judy Sholtis '86 from 1983 to 1986.

Sophomore outfielder Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) led the offense in Game 1 by batting 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Junior infielder Brennan Balfour (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) went 1-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, a triple, a run scored and a game-high two runs batted in.

Senior catcher Kelli Holota (Spring Lake, N.J./Livingston) and sophomore outfielder Sarah Dowzicky (Collegeville, Pa./Germantown Academy) both went 1-for-3 in the opener. Holota doubled and plated a runner on a sacrifice fly. Dowzicky scored on Balfour's sac fly.

Senior outfielder Deanna Anderson (Coal Twp., Pa./Shamokin Area) went 1-for-4 with a run. Junior infielder/pitcher Kim Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) was 0-for-1 but walked and was hit by her seventh pitch this season. Rubino has been hit by a pitch 12 times in her career. The seven this season and 12 overall are both school records.

Dowzicky batted 2-for-4 in the nightcap with a double and a game-high three RBI. Junior infielder Shelly Landis (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) was 1-for-2 with a walk, a hit batsman, one RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore infielder Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area), Finizio and Holota were all 1-for-3 with a walk. Reese had an RBI, while Finizio and Holota each scored once.

Junior infielder Taylor Crawford (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley HS) went 1-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Balfour was 0-for-3 but was hit by a pitch and scored.

Next Games: Thursday, April 8, vs. Penn College (DH) (non-conference games), 3:30 p.m.
