BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore attack
Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) notched a game-high four goals to lead Susquehanna
past host Moravian College, 9-7, in a Landmark Conference men's
lacrosse game at Rocco Calvo Field on April 10.
Breakey scored the first SU goal with 13 minutes,
36 seconds left in the second quarter on an assist from sophomore
midfielder Luke Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison).
Susquehanna (6-5, 1-2 Landmark) fell behind Moravian (1-9, 0-3
Landmark), 1-0, after the first quarter but traded goals for the
rest of the first half. The score was tied at 4 at halftime and at
6 after the third period, but SU netted three goals in the final
quarter to win the game.
SU's freshman attack Sean Ledwick (Weston,
Conn./Weston) scored twice in the game, his first coming
at the 8:13 mark of the second period off a pass from freshman
midfielder Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham
HS) to tie the game at 2. Ledwick also
picked up three ground balls, while Fritts dished
out two assists.
Fritts hooked up with Breakey
for the third Crusaders goal of the game with 3:51 left in the
second quarter. Breakey then finished off a pass
from sophomore midfielder Billy Spack (Arlington,
Va./Yorktown) with 1:05 left before halftime to end the
first-half scoring. Spack also netted a goal in
the game.
Breakey and Delavan met up again
with 2:22 remaining in the third period to make the score 6-5 after
Moravian had built a two-goal lead. Breakey leads
the Crusaders with 22 goals this season.
Crusaders sophomore attack Tim Pastore (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood) tallied two assists in the game, his first
on a goal by Delavan with 2:02 left in the third
to tie the game once again, this time at 6.
Spack registered his lone goal to start the
fourth quarter and give SU its first lead of the contest with 14:11
left in the game. Pastore assisted on the
goal.
With 7:47 to go, Delavan picked up his third
assist of the game on the second goal by Ledwick
to put the Crusaders ahead, 8-6.
After Moravian brought the game back to within one goal, 8-7, with
just over six minutes left to play, sophomore midfielder
Rory Meagher (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central
Catholic) recorded the final goal of the game with 2:53 to
go.
Susquehanna's freshman midfielder Marcus Cheatham
(Reisterstown, Md./Loyola HS) picked up a game-high eight
ground balls, while junior midfielder Ryan Oakes (North
Yarmouth, Maine/Cheverus) won a game-high 14 faceoffs and
scooped up three ground balls.
Freshman Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) picked up the win by playing the final 15 minutes
of action and stopping five shots.
Teammate and fellow freshman Blake Middendorf (Wayne,
Pa./Radnor) played the first 45 minutes and made six
saves.
Susquehanna outshot Moravian, 45-30, and only failed on one clear
attempt (13-for-14).
