HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Susquehanna University women won a
Landmark Conference match against host Juniata College, 6-3, at
Raffensperger Tennis Courts on April 20.
Susquehanna (7-4, 2-2 Landmark) won five of the six singles
matches in straight sets and beat Juniata (8-8, 1-4 Landmark) in a
third-flight doubles match.
SU's sophomore Julia Lerner (Arlington,
Va./Washington-Lee) earned the first-flight singles
victory, 6-2, 6-3. Teammate and freshman Abby Hess
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) won at second-flight
singles, 6-3, 6-1, and Hess' high-school classmate
Kim Rogers (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) won at
third-flight, 6-4, 6-3.
Junior Whitney Arcaro (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton
Area) and sophomore Cassie Zerbe (Berwick,
Pa./Berwick Area) earned the Crusaders' other singles
points at fifth- and sixth-flight, respectively.
Arcaro went 6-2, 6-0, and Zerbe
went 6-2, 7-5.
Zerbe (8-2) and Lerner (8-3)
lead Susquehanna in singles wins this season.
Lerner has played in the first flight all season,
building a 3-1 Landmark record there. Zerbe is
also 3-1 in the Landmark this season.
The pairing of senior Jessi Haas (Montoursville,
Pa./Montoursville Area) and sophomore Allison
Killeen (Media, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) won for SU in
doubles play, 8-3, for its team-high eighth doubles win of the
season (8-3). That duo is 2-2 in the Landmark.
