SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's freshman midfielder
Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola HS)
picked up a game-high eight ground balls, but Susquehanna lost to
visiting Marywood University, 11-5, in a non-conference men's
lacrosse game at Sassafras Fields on April 21.
Cheatham now has 61 ground balls this season to
lead SU. The Crusaders scooped up 26 ground balls as a team in this
day's game.
SU (6-7 overall) jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Marywood (10-3
overall) after the first quarter and took a 4-2 advantage into
halftime. The Crusaders increased the difference to 5-2 just 4
minutes, 41 seconds into the second half, but Marywood netted the
last nine goals of the contest (four in the third quarter and five
in the fourth).
SU's sophomore attack Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Cumberland Valley) tallied a team-high two goals.
Breakey scored the final SU goal of the first half
with 4:02 left on a pass from freshman midfielder Tylere
Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham HS).
Breakey then netted the final Crusaders goal of
the game off an assist from sophomore midfielder Luke
Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) in the third quarter.
Fritts also scored a goal halfway through the
second quarter to break a 2-2 tie.
Crusaders sophomore attack Tim Pastore (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood) began the scoring for both teams,
registering his 15th goal of the year just 1:17 into the game.
Pastore also scooped up a ground ball in the
contest.
Freshman midfielder Jon Horbert (Longwood, Fla./Lake
Brantley) recorded his fourth goal of the season,
unassisted with 7:42 left in the first quarter. Teammate and junior
midfielder Ryan Oakes (North Yarmouth,
Maine/Cheverus) won a team-high seven faceoffs and picked
up five ground balls.
Crusaders sophomore Anthony Maiorella (Mountain Lakes,
N.J./Mountain Lakes) suffered the loss, stopping three
shots in the first 42:07 of the game before being replaced by
sophomore Jordan Daney (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower
Merion). Daney made two saves in the
final 17:53.
