HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Freshman infielder Nick Ferlise
(Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) went 4-for-6 with an
impressive seven runs batted in to lead visiting Susquehanna
University to a 12-2 win over Juniata College at Langdon-Goodale
Field on April 25.
Susquehanna (16-17, 9-6 Landmark) scored the game's first 10
runs, capped off by Ferlise's two-out, three-run
homerun in the fifth inning, and Juniata (11-22, 8-7 Landmark)
never got closer than a nine-run deficit the rest of the way.
Ferlise also doubled.
Freshman Brian Wendig (West Chester, Pa./Malvern
Prep) earned the win by pitching his second straight
complete game. Wendig scattered eights in this
game and allowed no walks while striking out a game-high nine
batters.
Teammate and freshman outfielder Ken Kayama [Koto-Ku,
Japan/Solebury (Pa.)] went 2-for-3 with a walk, a hit
batsman, a double and a run scored. Junior infielder Justin
Portzline (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) batted
2-for-4 with a hit batsman, two runs and one RBI to improve his
team-leading batting average this year to .418.
SU's senior infielder Zack Brigman (Yardville,
N.J./Hamilton West) and senior catcher Don
Kirkland (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) both went
1-for-4. Brigman was hit by a pitch and scored
twice, and Kirkland walked and hit a sacrifice
fly.
Junior infielder Geoff Hunter (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton
Area) and sophomore infielder Ethan Rieker
(Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) were each 1-for-5 with a
run.
Senior infielder/catcher Chris Price (Coral Springs,
Fla./Coral Glades) was 1-for-6 but scored a game-high four
runs.
