Boxscore

READING, Pa. -- Susquehanna University used a seven-run seventh inning to take a 13-10 non-conference baseball win from host Albright College at Charles Kelchner Field on April 27.

Susquehanna (17-17 overall) trailed Albright (8-24 overall), 8-4, entering the seventh, but got back-to-back homeruns from senior catcher Don Kirkland (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) and sophomore infielder Ethan Rieker (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) in that frame to cap off the big half-inning.

Kirkland's homer brought home three runs. He finished with two runs scored and a game-high four runs batted in as part of a 3-for-5 day. Rieker went 3-for-4 and added a sacrifice bunt.

Sophomore Jordan Thomas (Westminster, Md./Westminster HS) earned the pitching win by throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Thomas scattered three hits and three walks and struck out a game-high four batters after relieving freshman Nick Torkildsen (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley HS).

Torkildsen threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while notching one strikeout. He replaced junior Joe Schurig (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), who pitched the first three innings, yielding five runs on nine hits and no walks. Schurig had two Ks.

Senior Ben Leonard (Johnstown, Pa./Shade) finished the game, pitching a two-hit ninth inning and allowing two unearned runs. The tying run was left on deck.

SU's freshman infielder Nick Ferlise (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) batted 3-for-5, doubling once, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Teammate and freshman outfielder Corey Stirmer (Fulton, Md./Atholton) went 3-for-6 with a double, two stolen bases and two runs.

Junior pitcher/infielder Calvin Hug (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) was the other Crusader with a multi-hit game. Hug went for 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and one RBI.

Senior infielder/catcher Chris Price (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades) batted 1-for-4 for Susquehanna with two RBI, including a sacrifice fly, and a run.

The Crusaders' freshman outfielder Ken Kayama [Koto-Ku, Japan/Solebury (Pa.)] and junior infielders Erik Tuomisto (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and Justin Portzline (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) were all 1-for-5 with a run. Kayama and Tuomisto also drove in a run. Kayama doubled. Portzline was hit by a pitch.
