KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore attack
Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) tallied a team-high three goals, but visiting
Susquehanna lost to the United States Merchant Marine Academy,
11-9, in a Landmark Conference men's lacrosse game at Captain James
Harvey Tomb Field on May 1.
The loss marks Susquehanna's final contest of the 2010 season.
Breakey scored a man-up goal with 9 minutes, 26
seconds left in the third quarter and a man-down goal with 31
seconds left in the same period. Sophomore attack Tim
Pastore (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) dished out his
team-leading 20th assist on the man-down score.
Susquehanna (8-8, 2-4 Landmark) fell behind the USMMA (7-7, 3-3
Landmark), 5-0, after the first quarter and eventually 7-0 with
13:02 left in the second quarter. The Crusaders needed a strong
comeback and got one by erupting for eight straight goals over the
remainder of the second period and into the first 13:10 of the
third quarter to take their first lead of the contest, 8-7. The
USMMA regained the lead, 9-8, before Breakey
netted the man-down goal to end the third period. SU could only
take five shots in the final quarter of play but got none on
goal.
SU's freshman midfielder Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown,
Md./Loyola HS) scored a goal, assisted on another and
picked up a game-high-tying three ground balls.
Cheatham's goal came unassisted with 2:24
left in the third quarter.
Teammate and freshman attack Sean Ledwick (Weston,
Conn./Weston) notched a goal off a
Cheatham assist with 10:50 left in the second and
tied Cheatham with three ground balls.
SU's sophomore midfielders Billy Spack
(Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and Luke Delavan
(Madison, N.J./Madison) and freshmen midfielders
Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham HS) and
Jon Horbert (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) each
registered a goal in the game. Delavan netted a
man-up goal with 12:16 left in the second period.
Spack, Fritts and
Horbert all scored during SU's eight-goal run.
Crusaders sophomore midfielder Trae Humphreys (Wilmington,
Del./Sanford) won a team-high eight faceoffs.
Sophomore Jordan Daney (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower
Merion) played the final 30 minutes of the contest and
stopped eight shots in the loss. Freshman Will Torrence
(Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) was in the cage for the
first 30 minutes and made seven saves.
Susquehanna needed a win to keep its chances for a Landmark
playoffs spot alive.
End of season
