SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Susquehanna University women won a
Landmark Conference match to the visitors from The Catholic
University of America, 8-1, on Senior Day at the James W. Garrett
Sports Complex tennis courts on May 1.
SU is the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Landmark championships and
will travel to top-seeded Drew University on Tuesday, May 4, for a
semifinals match at 4:30 p.m.
Susquehanna (8-5, 3-3 Landmark) won five of the six singles
matches and the swept doubles play against Catholic (6-11, 0-6
Landmark), led by freshman Abby Hess (Hughesville,
Pa./Hughesville), who won, 6-1, 6-1, at second-flight
singles and teamed with high-school classmate Kim Rogers
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) to win at second-flight
doubles, 8-4.
SU's sophomore Julia Lerner (Arlington,
Va./Washington-Lee) was a straight-sets winner at
first-flight singles, 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Ellen Pulsinelle
(Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) earned another
straight-sets victory from fourth-flight, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Whitney Arcaro (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton
Area) won a hard-fought fifth-flight match, 4-6, 6-0,
10-8. Teammate and sophomore Cassie Zerbe (Berwick,
Pa./Berwick Area) also won in three sets from
sixth-flight, 7-5, 3-6, 10-2.
Lerner and Arcaro notched the
first-flight doubles point for SU, topping their opponents, 8-3.
Susquehanna's senior Jessi Haas (Montoursville,
Pa./Montoursville Area) and sophomore Allison
Killeen (Media, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) won at
third-flight doubles, 8-2.
