STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association
honored Susquehanna University's junior infielder
Brennan Balfour (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape
Elizabeth) with inclusion on its 2010 Louisville
Slugger/Division III all-East Region first team on May 14.
Balfour earned this all-region honor as an
at-large player. She claimed a spot on the all-Landmark
Conference first team as a third baseman on May 12.
Balfour has cracked a school-record nine
triples and 11 homeruns this year and added five doubles and 28
singles to make up a team-high .732 slugging percentage.
She ranks second in the Landmark this year in both runs
(43) and hits (53) while leading the conference in triples, HR and
total bases (109). Her three sacrifice flies this year are good for
second in the Landmark.
Balfour also stands second in Susquehanna
single-season history in runs and hits, though her 39 runs batted
in this year are a school record, as are her total bases.
Her 13 career HR are also a school record, and her 12 career
triples are tied for second-most in school history.
She has batted .356 in 2010, not including nine walks, two hit
batsmen and two sacrifice bunts. She has also stolen six bases in
six attempts. She leads the Crusaders with 77 assists.
The Landmark honored her as its softball Player of the Week on
April 19.
Susquehanna is enjoying its best season in program history with
a 33-11 mark, including an 8-4 record in the Landmark, good for a
runner-up finish in the regular-season conference standings.
SU also finished second in the Landmark playoffs for the second
straight year, narrowly missing an automatic berth in the 2010 NCAA
Division III championships. The Crusaders were invited to the NCAA
playoffs nonetheless on the strength of their
school-record amount of victories and No. 4 ranking in
the Division III East Region.
Susquehanna went on a program-record 19-game winning streak in
the middle of this season.
The Crusaders are the No. 3 seed in the Newport News, Va.,
regional of the Division III championships, where they have already
won once--a 3-1, nine-inning victory over No. 6-seeded Frostburg
State University on May 13. Balfour knocked in
SU's final two runs by way of a walk-off homer.
