SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Susquehanna University's junior
back Laurel Monaghan (East Fallowfield, Pa./Coatesville
Area) scored her first goal of the season on a corner
attempt to help Susquehanna top Neumann University, 3-2, at
Sassafras Fields on Sept. 11.
Monaghan's goal gave SU (3-1 overall) a 2-1 lead in the
41st minute of play. Sophomore midfielder Ally Bradley
(Jamison, Pa. /Central Bucks South) and junior back
Diana Mask (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant)
assisted on the goal.
Bradley got the Crusaders on the board first,
netting her team-leading sixth goal of the season with just over a
minute left in the first half. Junior forward Heather Moore
(Columbus, N.J./Peddie) dished out the assist on a
centering pass.
Neumann (0-4 overall) knotted the game at 1, just 1 minute, 15
seconds into the second half before SU extended its lead to 3-1,
nearly seven minutes after.
Crusaders junior midfielder Anna Spisak (Boiling Springs,
Pa./Boiling Springs) gave SU the two-goal lead in the 43rd
minute. Monaghan's centering pass from the
top of the “D” notched her the assist on the goal.
SU junior Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel,
N.J./Seneca) recorded five saves in 61:23 of action to
pick up her third win of the season.
Freshman Margaret Ruth (Lewisbury, Pa./Northern)
didn't face a shot in the 8:37 of play.
SU dominated the shots category, outshooting the Knights 27-10.
The Crusaders also had in the advantage in corners, 11-3.
