SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior forward Jim Robertiello
(Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scored the lone goal
for SU, but it wasn't enough, as the Crusaders fell, 2-1, to
Lebanon Valley College on Thursday night at Sassafras Fields.
Susquehanna (4-3-0) netted the first goal of the contest on an
assist from sophomore midfielder John Arnold
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) in the 33rd minute
before LVC (4-3-0) rolled off two, second half goals, including the
game-winner with just two minutes remaining in the game.
The Crusaders had one final attempt to knot the score up in the
final seconds, but a header attempt sailed just over the
crossbar.
Senior B.J. Merriam (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern
Regional) made four saves but suffered the loss in all 90
minutes of action. Merriam faced 11 shots in the
contest, including nine in the second half. The biggest play he
made in the game came on a breakaway by a Flying Dutchmem player,
as Merriam left goal to contest the one on one,
and made a sliding effort to end the threat.
The entire game was evenly matched, as both teams took 11 shots.
SU held a slim advantage in corners, 6-5.
Next game: Saturday, Sept. 25 at Catholic, 12:30 p.m.
