Box Score
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susquehanna women's soccer
team surrendered only one goal to conference opponent Catholic in a
road game on Saturday afternoon, but that one goal proved to be the
difference in a 1-0 SU loss.
Rookie goalie Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville,
N.Y./Woodstown) kept Susquehanna (3-5, 0-1) in the game
with her seven-save outing as Catholic (4-4, 1-0) out-shot SU by a
13-5 margin.
Angela Amato (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep)
was the lone Crusader to take multiple shots over the 90 minutes
with two. Four of SU's shots came in the second half but none
found the back of the net.
The first half featured only eight combined shots between the
teams with seven coming from the Cardinals. Thanks to three Norbuts
saves, however, the teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 at the midway
point of the game.
With just over 10 minutes left in the match neither team had
socred and overtime seemed the likely outcome. However,
Catholic's Carolyn Girandola headed a pass from Caitlin Brett
past Norbuts that made it a 1-0 game.
Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove
Area) recorded the final shot of the game for the
Crusaders with two minutes left but it went wide as the Cardinals
held on for the win.
The outcome was the third one-goal loss for Susquehanna this
season.
