SELINSGROVE, Pa. - After spending 20 days away from its home
gymnasium, the Susquehanna women's volleyball team finally returned
home and opened its final home stand of the season with a 3-0 win
over McDaniel on Tuesday night.
It took a few points for the Crusaders to settle in, but once
they did, they captured straight-set victories (25-16, 25-18,
25-22) and improve to 12-7 on the season.
Tuesday’s match marked the final tune-up before
Landmark play opens this weekend.
Senior Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom)
led all players with 11 kills, although close behind her was
Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) with
10. Jankiewicz also finished with two service
aces, while Jessica Cornman-Homonoff (Brooklyn,
Conn./Woodstock Academy) added three off the bench.
Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South
Manor) tallied 17 assists and Samantha Adler
(Montville, N.J./Montville Twp.), who saw time in the
third set, added eight.
Susquehanna rallied from a 15-12 deficit in the opening set to
eventually win by a score of 25-16. A Carson killed tied it at 15
and an Emily Bwint (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen
Valley) service ace put SU ahead for good as the Crusaders
closed out the set on two Green Terror attack errors by Maggie
Fenelly.
After jumping out to a 3-0 advantage in the middle set,
Susquehanna never relinquished its lead. McDaniel did roll over,
however, as the Green Terror never let SU take more than a
five-point advantage, but the Crusaders were able to take advantage
of several costly McDaniel miscues to grab the win.
The Crusaders also led from start to finish in the 25-22
third-set win. McDaniel (1-12) did make it close at the end,
cutting what had been an eight-point SU lead (19-11) to just two
(24-22), but another Fenelly attack error ended the set and the
match.
