SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Susquehanna University's freshman
outside hitter Emily Bwint (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen
Valley) registered a match-high 12 kills to lead host SU
past Muhlenberg College, 3–0 at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on
Sept. 7.
SU (3-3 overall) defeated Muhlenberg (1-3), 25-15, 25-15,
25-18.
Bwint recorded a set-high four kills in the first
set and followed up with five in the second set.
The Crusaders jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first set after a
kill by sophomore middle hitter Kaylee Monga (Rockaway,
N.J./Morris Knolls). Muhlenberg called a timeout after
that point but couldn't stop the bleeding, as SU built its
largest lead of the game, 19-7, and went on to win by 10
points.
Monga led the Crusaders with three total blocks
and chipped in five kills.
Junior setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville,
N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) tallied a match-high 32 assists
and added four digs, two aces and a kill.
SU's sophomore libero Kelly O'Brien (Mastic,
N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) also posted a match-high with
19 digs. O'Brien added two kills.
The Crusaders fell behind, 6-2, to start the second set but went
on an 8-4 run to knot the game at 10. After the deadlock at 10, SU
never trailed and went on another long run, 15-5, to end the second
set.
Sophomore defensive specialist Dana Kreutzer (Flemington,
N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) made five digs and posted
a match-high four service aces.
SU also had strong hitting performances from senior outside hitter
Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom),
sophomore outside hitter Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James
Caldwell) and sophomore right side hitter M.C.
Llareus (Edgewater, Md./South River), who combined for 16
kills. Jankiewicz and Carson each
had five, while Llareus tallied six.
