Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's basketball
team traveled to Moravian with a four-game win streak and a perfect
3-0 Landmark Conference record on the line, but unfortunately the
Greyhounds snapped both streaks with an 82-77 win on Friday
night.
Three players reached double figures for the Crusaders (7-8,
3-1), with a team-high 19 from sophomore J.T. Wilson
(Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional). Spenser
Spencer (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) added 17 off the bench
in his 26 minutes of action while freshman center Harley
Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) added 11 to go
along with eight rebounds.
Despite committing 20 turnovers to Moravian's 15, SU
scored 21 points off the Greyhounds' miscues while Moravian managed
just 13. However, 12 second-chance points by Moravian and a 46
percent showing from beyond the arc helped give the Greyhounds the
win.
Moravian (8-7, 2-2) jumped out to the early 7-2 lead after less
than two minutes of play before Sellinger's jumper with 17:16
on the clock put SU ahead for the first time, 8-7.
The Greyhounds regained the lead until Spencer's trey with
13:30 to play tied it at 15 and sparked a 12-4 Crusaders run that
made it 27-19 more than midway through the half.
Unfortunately for Susquehanna Moravian countered with a run of
its own in the form of a 13-2 stretch to put SU in a 32-29 hole
with 4:51 to play in the half.
Two Jason Dawson (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Prep)
free throws with 48 seconds on the clock briefly tied it at 40-all
but Moravian's Garrett Johnson came through with a layup with
just 16 seconds on the clock to make it 42-40 in favor of the
Greyhounds at halftime.
While SU's defense never let Moravian take more than an
eight-point edge at any point in the second half, the Crusaders
were unable to regain a lead of their own.
With 1:15 to play, the Greyhounds led by eight (76-68) before
Wilson's three-pointer with 33 seconds on the clock quickly
made it a four-point game at 78-74. Susquehanna was forced to foul
in the final seconds of the game and four Moravian free throws
prevented SU from completing a comeback.
Next game: Saturday, Jan. 15 at Scranton – 2
p.m.

- SU head coach Frank Marcinek remains at 298
career wins. He holds an overall career record of 298-246, all at
