Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Fans at a packed Houts Gymnasium saw
the Susquehanna and Drew men's basketball teams battle for 40
minutes, but unfortunately it was the Rangers who came out on the
winning side of a 77-72 decision on Friday night.
Drew (7-9, 3-3) scored eight of the final 11 points over the
final 60 seconds of play to put the game away.
Neither team led by more than seven points at any point
throughout the night as there were 13 lead changes and 14 ties
during the 40 minutes of play.
Three players reached double figures for SU (7-10, 3-3), led by
Rob Estep's (York, Pa./West York/Hobart) 19.
Harvey Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn./St. Thomas More)
added 15 to go along with a team-high six boards, while
J.T. Wilson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII
Regional) scored 14 and six rebounds of his own.
The Crusaders twice held leads of seven points within the final
4:21 of the game, but their offense came up short in the closing
minutes.
No team led by more than three points until a Jason
Dawson (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Prep) layup with six
minutes left in the first half made it 22-17 in favor of SU.
Wilson's trey one minute later kept it a five-point contest
(25-20), but a late first-half run by the Rangers gave them a 32-28
halftime advantage.
Drew led for the opening two minutes of the second half before
Wilson's jumper with 17:51 on the clock put Susquehanna up
35-34.
Both teams saw shares of the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Crusaders led by seven, 66-59, on a Pannell layup with 4:21 to
play and another Pannell layup less than a minute later kept it a
seven-point SU advantage.
Unfortunately, Susquehanna's offense stalled over the
remaining three minutes, including that final 60-second stretch
that saw Drew put the game away.
