Box Score
WASHINGTON, D.C. – An early, 13-0 deficit proved too much
for the Susquehanna men's basketball team to overcome, as the
Crusaders dropped an 84-57 road decision to Catholic on Friday
night. The 57 points marked the fewest scored by SU this
season.
Susquehanna (8-11, 4-4) sank only 36 percent of its shots while
Catholic (13-6, 4-4) countered with a 42 percent showing. The
Cardinals also out-rebounded SU by a 50-31 margin, including 16
offensive boards.
Freshman Harley Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa./Central
Mountain) was the lone Crusader in double figures with 12
points to go along with his five rebounds. Senior Rob
Estep (York, Pa./West York/Hobart)
finished with nine points and a team-high six rebounds.
Catholic scored 13 unanswered points within the first four
minutes of play as the Cardinals never trailed at any point in the
game. Spenser Spencer (Seattle, Wash.,/Lakeside)
finally got SU on the board with a three-pointer that made it
13-3.
With 11:47 on the clock, Estep's jumper made it 22-9 and
Sellinger followed with a layup to make it an 11-point game
(22-11), but SU could not close the gap any further during the
final 10 minutes of play in the half.
With one minute to play in the half, the Cardinals led by 20
(36-16) and the Crusaders found themselves trailing 43-18 at the
midway point of the game, marking their lowest first-half scoring
total of the season.
SU's offensive woes continued in the second half. The
Crusaders fell behind by 26 after five minutes of play and the
Cardinals stretched their lead to 28 with 13:49 remaining.
Midway through the half, Susquehanna reeled off nine unanswered
points to cut the Cardinals' lead to 19 (60-41) but a
Catholic timeout spurred nine unanswered points and put SU in a
28-point hole (69-41) with 5:51 to play as the Cardinals went on to
win by a 27-point margin.
